Well, after about 9 hours of work, I think I have something relatively worth calling done. In case you’re wondering its proportions are about 18x24, although it did have about a 1/4” boarder all around. It’s not a clean border because I didn’t put tape to protect it, but it also exists as a spacer for compositional purposes. Anyway, I’m going to keep trucking along here, next I’m thinking Obama and the medical cross?

Maybe you’re sick of seeing this image by now, but I have no apologies for you. This is really all I’m working on right now besides some un-interesting re-drawings of really old bad art that still isn’t very interesting. So, this is the final step before I take it to real life drawing/painting. I worked out a lot of things digitally this time.
Pencil, pen, ink and acrylic here I come…or maybe colored pencil.
No I’m going to try acrylic, because it hates me and I hate it, and we need to learn to get along better.

I’m still working on this, but it’s coming along rather quickly into what I imagined it would be…..I imagine little boy Tweet calling out, “Mom, Uncle Sylvester is holding my hand and looking at me funny again!”

I’ve been playing Uncharted 3 most of the night and decided to take a break for the night, but before I go to bed I drew a quick sketch of this strange idea I had while looking at our collectors edition of Looney Tunes. I thought Sylvester looked like a creepy, pot bellied redneck. The arms need to be longer and I’m thinking of adding a Tweety figure in this…probably save that for tomorrow….I mean later today when the sun is up.

This is really weird. It’s a self portrait from 2005 the first time I went to college. It’s size is…well extra large, it takes up the better part of my kitchen floor and I had to stand on a ladder to photograph it. I don’t have enough wall space to hang it. Mostly because we have so many posters hanging on our walls. I was organizing all my works from this last semester into my portfolio and realized I never documented this work.
The project was to draw different parts of our face on different days using different techniques. This was back when I used oil pastels and linseed oil like it was finger paint….
Plus Lauren thinks it’s super creepy, so I’ll probably never get to hang it anywhere unless it’s somewhere she’ll never see it.

Now that the semester is over and my ability to return again next semester is in serious doubt, I’m left pondering the deeply philisophical question of what makes my art my own. Much of the reason I returned was not just to make connections, although largly it was, but also to determine how stylistically I wanted to represent myself. In art it’s almost a cliche, to take up a style and have that signature be the definition of what makes you an artist. Except, it’s how the world knows what they want to consume. I think it’s difficult, especially for myself, to determine my own signature or handwriting in art yet, but for as much as I am still at a loss in this, so too I have learned that most artists are and continue to be through their lives. I can only keep trying and producing. So, summer, bring me your warm days and cool nights and I will bring you art.
